Blog changes = Life changes

I am so excited for these new updates in my blog.

As you've seen in one of my previous posts, I've been blogging for eight years. Imagine all the changes I've done?! Countless - some drastic and some are not.

So, now, I've done another huge update.

First, my domain name was changed from www.J-Thinks.com to my real name www.JONAVER.com.

I've been in a long break before I started blogging again and took some income assignments, here and there. But I realized I'm not, and will never be as active, as what I used to. Plus I forgot most of the blogging tricks I used to practice. So, I turn into finding someone who could guide me in maximizing my blog's purpose. Her first advise was to create a brand - something unique and will stand out. So, yes, I think my real name is nothing but a perfect brand for me.

Insurance for Key Employee

When searching for a job, one of the most important factor that we should look for is the insurance benefits you can get from a company. Lots of companies, unfortunately, doesn't offer good insurance benefits nowadays but there are still the good ones that offers them. Some small-to-medium size companies even has key man life insurance, a life insurance policy used to protect a business from the death of a key employee. So it's not just the employees are insured but also the business itself. Usually, if there is a loss of a key employee, the company won't survive, that is why key man insurance is important.

Deep thought before bed -- I'll see you, TOMORROW

I should've been already sleep by now but I don't feel like doing so. Tomorrow is my first day of work for a new job. Actually, it's just a training, but a paid one too. Tomorrow will be the start of another big change in my life. After a year and almost 5 months of not having a full time, I'm gonna start one tomorrow. It will be hard, but I know that it'd only be in the beginning and soon, I'm gonna get used to it again. Tomorrow, my son's life will change coz he's gonna start attending school at a young age of 3. Tomorrow will be my first time being separated from my son for the whole day and it'd one of the hardest thing, above all.

Getting this full time was a very big decision that I did on my own but with my husband's full support and guidance from God, so I know I did the right thing. But a part of me is worried, especially about my son. I know, in my mind and in my heart, that he's gonna be alright. He's gonna have fun and learn a lot of things in school, but I know that we'll gonna be missing each other so much, I don't think I can bear it. But I need to work which is the best for his future. And him in school is what's good for him too, so that he can develop his interrelationship with other people and being independent.

Ever since I got the job offer, I have been always thinking about this. God knows how happy I am with the new blessing that He gave to us. A job that I like with everything that I needed. But things aren't always perfect. Though I got what I wanted, this time is a huge obstacle for me between my son and my family. I guess I'll just to pass through this obstacle just like what I did with all the other ones that I've been through to prove that I deserve all of this blessing. I know, life should be always like this. But I'm only human and I'm not strong. I have God with me and that's all I can depend on. He had never left me and I'm sure that He never will.

Goodnight!

Bus riding around downtown Austin

This coming Monday would be my first day of work in downtown Austin. I'm so excited and worried coz I don't drive yet so I'd gonna end up drive with my mother-in-law home or take a bus if she's gonna be out of town.

I have been here in Austin, TX for a little over a year but we've never been around the downtown area that often coz we don't wanna fight traffic. So I asked my husband if we can go around downtown just to see where do I need to go to take a bus and what bus do I need to take since there are lots of routes around Austin.

We started in the nearest bus stop/park and ride to our house which is around 5 miles away from us. We took a route that will pass by where I'm working at and that wasn't a short one. It took us about 45 minutes to get where we're planning to go. So I decided that once I'd be able to get my license, I'd rather drive to work and fight the traffic than suffer being dizzy with all the stops with a bus.

We then took a short trip (about 5 minute) from my workplace to my mother-in-law's office. That was short, so I can deal with it everyday, but not the long trips with million stops (ugh!).

That was such an experience and we learned a lot of things--the routes, stops, people we'll be riding with, etc. And I was glad that I was able to somehow to around downtown a little before my first day of work day. Of course, I'm excited to go to work. I remember myself when I first got here in Austin and saw the tall buildings, I said that I wish I'd be able to work in one of those tall buildings, and starting this Monday, I will be. Thank God for never unfailing support.

Troubleshooting days

I went to Best Buy earlier to look for a wireless router though I didn't look hard coz I already know what router I wanted. Of course, I got a Linksys router. Why? Because I used to work as a Linksys technician before and I know how to troubleshoot the thing.

It made me reminisced the time when I worked as a Product Support Representative. Sitting at my station with my Plantronics headset with serial number XS8067 (yes, I still remember coz if we lose it, it'll be worth our annual salary..or maybe not that much), Avaya phone, and computer on my desk. Our job was simply sitting around, listen to the beep before my opening spiel, "Hi, thank you for calling Linksys! This is Jona. How may I help you?", listen to the customers while (most of them) complain about their Linksys product's initial setup without even plugging the product in and running the CD yet, and we do the same thing over and over again. Of course, there are some challenging part such as irate customers, maintaining KPI, and dealing with nonsense. The most rewarding part of it is when the customer would ask to speak to a supervisor to let them know how much I helped them and all the recommendations, praises, etc.

Oh, I loved the job. I really did until I realized that I wasn't going anywhere with it. I don't blame anyone but myself coz I didn't do good enough. I wasn't performing bad either, in fact, it was my performance who was holding me stay on the job or else, they'd already kicked me out a long time ago due to my tardiness and absences. Oh yeah, I was such a lazy ass! But, no, they never kicked me out. I resigned from it.

Now you know why I got Linksys! I only have limited knowledge about the other products so I can't say that they don't work good. But working with Linksys and knowing how much people used it and satisfied with it, I never wanted to look to anything else. Yeah, I'm bias, I know. :-D

Call Center

A call center agent is someone who caters calls from any part of the world regardless of what place they are based. Nowadays, call centers had been increasing in the Philippines due to the most known fact that Philippines is less than most money in the world which means that the call center investors can save regarding salary wise for the call center employees. Though there are lots of call centers outside the Philippines but I have only observed what is within our country and it was obvious how the call center starts to get most job-seekers attentions and that made call center business become popular in our country.

As once a call center agent, I can say that being one was never easy in the sense that you need to deal with clients that comes all around the world which some, or maybe most are irates. One thing that's hard about a call center agent is having a multi-tasking job. Being alert is good but the pressure is not. Like most of the other jobs, they are settings targets to be achieved and help the company grow, but in a call center, nothing is consistent. The targets, the pacing, the workers, the standards and anything the like keeps changing and each time it changed, we need to adjust for our jobs to achieved the changes being made.

Stagnant

It has been over a month since I got my employment authorization card yet I'm still jobless. I have been waiting patiently for my EAC and thinking that I could get a job right away after I had it, but no, it was so far from what I have been hoping to happen. Maybe I just underestimated the economic recession here in the US. Truly, it isn't easy to find a job here especially for someone like who is very new to this country. I may have job experiences in the Philippines but I doubt that they would consider it for credentials.

So, all this things had been bothering me so much that I couldn't get enough sleep anymore. Maybe getting a sleep number bed can help me get some good sleep, at least. Sigh! It's just frustrating but I am not hopeless yet. Hubby is reassuring me that I would be getting my first job here soon. It is just a matter of getting my feet wet. I just hope that it would really really son coz I can't wait to see what my job would be.

Money from gold coins

You must have already seen the commercials about earning money through your old gold jewelries. Yes, you really can earn a pretty decent money with all your old gold items. Gold is one of the best investment you can have coz it's value increases as time passed unlike other form of metals. In fact, there are lots of people who would buy gold and sell it in the future. While some who already have gold coins in their pockets, saves it coz in case they needed money, they can easily sell it. So it can be a big help too.

But to those who are really into gold business, they would buy buy gold bullion which is considered as precious metal due to its high demand and market value. Others would also buy gold coins coz same as the bullion they also have a good market value. Then they would sell them for a higher prize in the near future coz gold value increases each year. That is why investing into gold is really a good idea.

So if you want to be into this investment and business, start getting your gold coins, then check out goldcoinsgain.com for you to get more idea on how gold can possibly make you rich. They you could be one of those people who are earning millions out from gold business.

Reliable Telemarketing Lists

One of the most reason of business success today is the use of telemarketing in so many ways. Of course, we all know that call centers started a few years ago and has been one of the company's secret to success, especially those that requires enormous attention to customer's. However, telemarketing through mails may not be a secret to most businesses now.

With the use of telemarket mailings, businesses can reach out to people who may or may not be interested but the key point is how the word about them was spread. But in order to be successful with this telemarketing technique, one should use a reliable mailing lists. Example of that is the "The List Company" that provides highly targeted data and is guaranteed in writing, which is what anyone needed for a source of mailing lists.

So, if your company or business is one that requires telemarketing technique, try the telemarketing lists and it could be just what is needed for your business' success.

I'll have my first job in the US soon

I'm so excited 'cos finally, after a long wait, I'd be able to get my first job here in US. You may be wondering why a long wait.

To give you an idea, I came here in US, almost a year ago with a K1 non-immigrant visa together with my son as K2. Our visa is as good as the tourist visa, it's illegal to get a job here, only that we have the advantage to adjust status as permanent resident aka greencard holder. But it took us a while to adjust status due to financial problems.

Finally, last March, we were able to apply for our adjustment of status, together with the employment authorization document, just in case it will take awhile for us to receive our greencards. Then, just today, I received an email from USCIS saying that our employment authorization got approved and they already sent us the approval notice letter.

Now, I'm starting to look for a job (Yay!!). I'm so excited cos before I left my home country, Philippines, I didn't have a job and I wasn't used to it cos I had been working since I finished school. But I'm gonna get a part-time job as a start cos it's hard to leave my son now that he is so used of having me around. I know it'd hard but I think it'd be easier if we'll gonna do it one step at a time.

Anyway, thinking about getting a job made me think about starting a better life, and of course, vacations can't miss my thoughts. Actually, I'm already thinking about Vegas vacations for next year. Boy, am I too excited?

Good way to display

We will talk about advertisement again here. If you think about how to advertise, it would not actually be a headache because there are lots of ways to advertise now. For example, in a trade you, you can simply your products in the trade show booths. And talking about trade show booths, there lots of ways to advertise or display your products, and that is what we're going to tackle in this post.

While searching about this, I stumbled upon Camelback Displays, Inc. website. They're one of most known company who offers all styles of banner stands such as indoor, outdoor, retractable (works like a projector screen), rod-tension style, adjustable, flying banners, and more, and it contains graphic designs with full printing to easily capture someone's attention.

Another way to diplay your products, logo, or tradement is with table skirts. We are still talking about trade shows here and if you have noticed, most tables in trade shows has covers. Camelback can put whatever display you want on the table skirt to, again, attract attention which is always our main goal in a trade show. Also, you can use Pipe and Drape displays which is made of aluminum pipes and fire retardant fabrics.

So, the choice is yours. I told, there are lots of ways to advertise and caught someone's attention with your product. Now, the only headache you'll have would be cause by deciding which one you want to do cos of the choices being offered.

Looking for jobs online

Here in the US, it is really not hard to search for a job because almost everything can be found online. Whatever type of job you wanted or needed, you can easily find it online and you can apply for a lot of job at the same without leaving home and printing resumes. You can easily submit your resumes online and specify the kind of job you needed or manually search for a job and submit your resume to the specific job and company one by one. For example, you are looking for a sales jobs, you just go through the sales job list and submit your information to every company you wanna apply to. It's that easy.

Planning a business

I am planning to start a business anytime from now. I've always been interested on eBay selling business, but I just don't know where to start yet. Until yesterday, I saw my Victoria Secret bra that I bought for my wedding dress and didn't end up using, then I decided to sell it on eBay for $50.00 'cos I bought it for $82.00. But it will be FREE shipping. I just posted it yesterday and no one had placed bid on it yet, so I don't know how it will turn out. I hope someone will buy it though.

Anyway, since I started selling on eBay, I was thinking of pursuing it and sell more. Actually, I already bought some nice long-sleeve tops online that I'll be selling on eBay or hopefully with my own website. Slowly but surely, I'd like to build an online store and buy apparel in a very affordable price. Once, I'll get the tops that I bought online, I will post it here for y'all to see. But I need to make sure first that it has a good quality too 'cos it is always the most important thing about selling something, having a good quality product. And having a worthy price is a plus.

Coffee, please?

I'm not really fond of coffee but when I was working in the call center, I need to have a sip or else I will be conk out while working. Truly, coffee makes us call center graveyard shift pips alive. The only problem though is that the capresso in our pantry is, most of the time, in use, especially during at night. So, normally, we would ask someone on break to make us coffee so that we will have our coffee ready when it would be our turn to take a break.

Well, I just miss those moments while I was working as call center agent. It was my longest job, so far and though there are some things I don't like with the company and some people I worked with, I enjoyed being a call center agent, HONESTLY.

Helping your business

One of the main thing to consider when starting up a business is making sure that you have enough funds for it. You can't just start a business without investing some money and you need to make sure that you have enough investment as a head start. Usually, business would not grow if it is started with low funds. So, if you are planning to start a business or you already have one and just realized that you don't have enough funds, don't woryy, it's never too late because www.onlinecheck.com can help you with their Fast Business Loan program. They approve faster than any other traditional loans. Plus you can get lots of great deals such as the Credit card processing where you can earn with each credit card sales you get.

Laughter Time: Call Center Jokes

I was a call center agent before and one of the things that entertains us are the jokes being sent to us on our email. Of course, jokes are about call center too. The following are some of the jokes that I have read and tried before. Have fun reading! :-)

-=oOo=-

Customer: "I've been ringing your call centre on 0700 2300 for two days and can't get through to enquiries, can you help?"
Operator: "Where did you get that number from, sir?"
Customer: "It was on the door to the travel centre."
Operator: "Sir, they are our opening hours."

-=oOo=-

Tech Support: "Customer Support, this is David, may I help you?"
Customer: "Hello, yes, it's me."
Tech Support: "Oh, it's me too." [chuckle]
Customer: "No, Esmie. E, s, m, i, e."
Tech Support: "Oh, sorry."

-=oOo=-

Tech Support: “I need you to right-click on the Open Desktop.”
Customer “Ok.”
Tech Support: “Did you get a pop-up menu?”
Customer: “No.”
Tech Support: “Ok. Right click again. Do you see a pop-up menu?”
Customer “No.”
Tech Support:: “Ok, sir. Can you tell me what you have done up until this
point?”
Customer: “Sure, you told me to write ‘click’ and I wrote ‘click’.”

-=oOo=-

Customer:: “I’m having trouble installing Microsoft Word.”
Tech Support:: “Tell me what you’ve done.”
Customer: “I typed ‘A:SETUP’.”
Tech Support:: “Ma’am, remove the disk and tell me what it says.”
Customer:: “It says ‘[PC manufacturer] Restore and Recovery disk’.”
Tech Support:: “Insert the MS Word setup disk.”
Customer:: “What?”
Tech Support: “Did you buy MS word?”
Customer: “No…”

-=oOo=-

Tech Support:: “Ok, in the bottom left hand side of the screen, can you see
the ‘OK’ button displayed?”
Customer: “Wow. How can you see my screen from there?”
(tried this a lot of times)

-=oOo=-

Tech Support:: “What type of computer do you have?”
Customer:: “A white one.”

-=oOo=-

Tech Support:: “Type ‘A:’ at the prompt.”
Customer:: “How do you spell that?”

-=oOo=-

Tech Support: “Just call us back if there’s a problem. We’re open 24 hours.”
Customer: “Is that Eastern time?”
(tried this a lot of times too)

Working as a Cashier

My first job after I graduated from College was a department store cashier. I had fun with that job because I get to meet lot of people everyday and I don't get bored. That when I started knowing a lot about computer because a few months after I started working there, the store upgraded their cash registers to the latest models so the cashiers were trained on how to use it. But my most favorite about that cash register is the barcode scanners. It still amazes me how it works.

Hubby's Home!

Well, he wasn't gone for long. He just went to work today but he got off from work earlier than what we accepted, so that is exciting. Imagine, he is supposed to work from 11:00 AM to close 12:00-1:00AM (depending on what time they finish cleaning up the store). So he was gone for the whole day and of course, I miss him each time he's not around. (*grin*)

As a WAHM

I have been a Work-At-Home-MOM (WAHM) eversince we came here in the States. The main reason is I can't get a job yet because of our immigration status here but we are working now on processing that.

Being a WAHM is not my own choice, but somehow it was a blessing. A blessing because I had the chance to be with my son 24/7 which I can't have if I will be working. Well, my work at home are not really considered a job but I am earning through blogging. It shouldn't be a big deal if I don't earn but I am already used to it. I can't stand a day without earning some money. There are some times when I don't feel like making a post on my blog and my hubby would say if I don't like doing it then I don't need to do it. But there is something in me that really wants to do it.

Now, I can't stand a day without checking any opps from my resources. Though it can be sometimes exhausting to make more than 10 posts a day but I am still enjoying it.

The money that I am earning through is for my personal uses but I would be more than glad to use it in helping to pay the bills and everything. My husband doesn't like the idea though because he says that it's MY money but I would still love to use it for significant purposes.

Though being a WAHM isn't a choice, but I love it because I am earning money and be with my son always at the same time. The money may not be as much as when I have a normal job but at least there is something.
